Brice Hogan Coaching: Set up a Strategy Session
This Finders & Founders conversation dives straight into one of the most frustrating realities job seekers face today: being qualified, capable, and ready — and still not getting their resume in front of a hiring manager.
To unpack why that happens, I sat down with Jeff Bitton, founder of Pitch59, whose entire career has revolved around one core truth: opportunity flows through human connection. Jeff’s journey started selling pest control door-to-door to pay for college — where he learned that people say yes to people they trust. Over the next decade, as he built businesses and invested in traditional marketing, he watched something shift. Real introductions were replaced with websites, logos, and cold outreach. And he realized what most job seekers are now experiencing firsthand — being visible isn’t the same as being known.
Together, we broke down why most resumes don’t get rejected they just never reach a decision-maker. We talked about how referrals actually happen, why the hidden job market is bigger than most people think, and how simple tactics like the Rule of 3 can dramatically increase your visibility inside a company. We also explored how reducing friction in introductions making it easier for someone to pass you along — can turn networking conversations into real traction.
If your job search feels stalled despite your qualifications, this conversation will reset your strategy. It’s not about applying harder. It’s about connecting smarter.

Show Notes — Key Topics & Insights
1. “Most resumes don’t get rejected. They just never make it to a hiring manager in the first place.”
This was one of the clearest reframes of the entire conversation. The problem for most job seekers isn’t qualification, it’s visibility. If your resume never reaches a decision-maker, your credentials don’t matter. That shift alone changes your strategy from “fix my resume” to “fix my access.”
2. Referrals move resumes.
A central theme of the discussion was simple and powerful: resumes move faster when a human moves them. Applications alone create little leverage. Introductions create context. When someone internally passes your name along, your odds shift dramatically because you’re no longer a stranger, you’re endorsed.
3. “If I could just introduce myself in person and explain my value proposition for just 1 minute to all these people, that would make all the difference.”
Jeff shared this reflection from his entrepreneurial journey, and it perfectly captures the friction in modern hiring. Online applications strip away humanity. Referrals restore it. The insight behind Pitch59 — and the Resume Card concept — is reducing the distance between who you are and how quickly someone can understand your value.
4. The Rule of 3 creates multiple paths inside a company.
Instead of applying and waiting, the tactical shift discussed was this:
Reach out to the hiring manager or executive
Reach out to a peer on the team
Reach out to an adjacent colleague
Three touchpoints increase your chances of being seen. Even if one person doesn’t respond, another might. This multiplies opportunity instead of relying on a single door.
5. The hidden job market isn’t a myth — it’s momentum.
A major insight from the conversation was that many roles are filled through conversations before they’re ever publicly posted. Internal referrals, network movement, and timing often determine outcomes long before an application goes live. When you understand that, your focus shifts from “submit more applications” to “create more conversations.”

Tactical Frameworks & Applications
Framework 1: The Rule of 3:
Turn One Application Into Three Internal Conversations
Most people apply and wait.
Instead, create three paths inside the company.
When you apply to a role, immediately reach out to:
The Hiring Manager/Executive – Decision-maker
A Peer on the Team – Someone doing the job
An Adjacent Colleague – Cross-functional partner
This increases visibility and dramatically improves your odds of getting passed along.
Step-by-Step
1️⃣ Apply as usual
Submit the application.
2️⃣ Send three short messages within 24–48 hours
Here are some templates

Summary: The key with this strategy is to connect with someone in the company who will help you connect with the hiring manager or decision makers. Always ask at the end of any conversation, "Who is someone you know and respect in the company that I could speak with next and would you mind introducing me."
Framework 2: Chris Pyeatt’s Pitchcard Experiment
Make It Effortless for Someone to Refer You
This was one of the best examples I've heard recently that was so effective and it doesn't take much time to apply it.
Here is the Process and the experiment
1️⃣ Create a PitchCard
This is an easy way to communicate your value quickly and its unique to anything else outthere because your PitchCard has 30-60 video and you can attach your resume and you can send it to anyone
Create Your Pitch Card
2️⃣Send it to 30 Executives
Go on LinkedIn and find executives in companies you might want to work for. Don't send it to recruiters it will just get lost and you wont be able to stand out.
Target:
Executives
Department leaders
Influential connectors inside the company
Focus on people who have authority or proximity to the role.
Then email, or DM them on linkedIn with this kind of message
[It's great to have you in my network!
I know turn over and exceeding ARR is crucial for all Chief Revenue Officers, I hope I can help in these areas for you! I'm looking for a place to plant my feet in the SLC area and really build a long career!
I am new to the SLC area and I'm eagerly seeking a new role as an AE. I was wondering if you had just 30 seconds to watch this Pitch Card and see if you might be interested in discussing potential opportunities with me at your company.
instert your PitchCard
Thank you for your time, I look forward to the chance to meet with you soon!]
Thats it and then share how quickly you were able to find a job by applying this process.
Framework 3: The 2–3–1 Network System
Keep Your Network Warm and Expanding Daily
Networking isn’t random — it’s rhythm. Instead of waiting until you “need” something, build a daily system that keeps relationships warm and your surface area growing. The goal is simple: maintain momentum through consistent, intentional outreach.
Each day:
Reach out to 2 existing contacts to reconnect and stay top of mind.
Hey! [Name] It’s been a minute since we last connected. I’d love to catch up, hear what you’ve been working on, and swap life/career updates. You up for a quick call or lunch sometime soon?
Heres my calendar to make it easy to find some time
[Include Calendar Link]
Connect with 3 new people aligned with your target companies or roles.
Send invitations to people who are commenting on posts on LinkedIn or use the Networking tab on LinkedIn to find people who have similiar interests.
Schedule at least 1 informational chat or coffee meeting from those conversations every day. Thats 5 a week.
Small daily actions compound into real opportunities — and real referrals. __________________________________________________________________________________ Quotes
“If I could just introduce myself in person and explain my value proposition for just one minute, that would make all the difference.”
“Ninety percent of consumers prefer to do business with someone they’ve had an emotional connection with.”
“When someone knows you, likes you, and trusts you, they’re far more willing to pass you along.”
Final Takeaway
Here is what I learned from my discussion with Jeff
The number 1 goal is to get your resume past a system and to a human. That means building relationships and getting. The trickiest part is how. That is where the Pitchcard stands out to me in everyway.
It's easy to use
You can share it with anyone
Other people can refer you in less than 5 seconds
Remember
Relationships are what build your career and are able to get the jobs you want.
Make it easy for you to share yourself (Using a pitchcard)
Referrals aren’t transactions — they’re relationships. Your resume still needs to align with the role and get through the ATS, but human connection is what creates opportunity. Stay consistent. Add value. Keep your network warm. When you do that, you stop applying into the void and start creating real conversations that lead to real interviews.
